causes ofaging skin
Facial lines and wrinkles form because of the following factors:
- Aging processes
- Sun damage
- Muscle movement
Fine lines and wrinkles appear because of irregular thickening of the dermis and because of a decreased amount of water held by the epidermis. This is mainly caused by sun damage and exposure to environmental toxins, particularly tobacco smoke. Deeper lines or furrows are classified as dynamic or static. Dynamic lines appear with movement of facial muscles. Static lines are unchanged with muscle movement. Eventually dynamic lines become static.
- Crow’s feet around the eyes are due to squinting and activity of the Orbicularis Oculi (eyelid) muscles.
- Worry lines on the forehead are due to contraction of the Frontalis muscle when raising the eyebrows
- Frown lines between the eyebrows are due to contraction of the Procerus muscles when concentrating, or angry.
A fine line is an ‘expression line’ that is caused by the contraction of facial muscles during smiling or frowning. A wrinkle is deeper than a fine line and typically caused by the natural aging process. Excessive exposure to UVA sunrays, environmental factors and repetitive expression when frowning, smiling, and squinting all can contribute to fine lines, wrinkles and aging skin.
